Sign CFH's petition--get the bugs out of Dannon's yogurt - they use crushed up bugs for color instead of real fruit
Don’t Hide Bugs In The Yogurt
Citizens for Health Responds to Juliette Rossant of Super Chef
Dear Citizen for Health,
In a recent post on the blog Super Chef, journalist Juliette Rossant accused CFH of not doing our "homework" with respect to our support of a petition calling for yogurt giant Dannon to replace the coloring agent "carmine" - actually ground up cochineal insects - with more fruit to add color instead.
Experienced and largely respected, Ms. Rossant is actually the one who needs to do more research on this one. CFH firmly believes consumers deserve to know as much as the manufacturers of food know about their products, especially in this case given that certain people should avoid carmine since some who consume it can have reactions ranging from hives to anaphylactic shock.
Read more of CFH Chairman Jim Turner's editorial reply here.
And if you agree that Dannon should clearly label products using insects until it can substitute a safer alternative, click on the green button below to add your name to the petition now!
As always, thank you for your participation.
