I read "Financial Planning for Dummies " back in the 90's when I was in my 20's. I took most of the advice. I have no debt other than my mortgage ( which is almost paid) and I have a well funded 401 K and a large amount of savings. Most of the info is common sense. Pay debts first. Get a 15 year mortgage. Don't buy whole life insurance (it's a scam). Do not get in to credit card debt. Live within your means. Save a little each month. The same advice your grandmother might give.
